The Stillwater Public School district has been recognized as one of the "Top 100 School Districts in the U.S.," and the district and its faculty have garnered numerous awards for academic excellence.
"The mission of the Stillwater Public School District is to provide a learning environment that respects the individual needs of its students and helps them to reach their full potential." Stillwater Public Schools is one of Oklahoma’s outstanding school districts, with test scores consistently above the national average and many academic and athletic awards and honors received by Stillwater students.
Eighty-four percent of Stillwater High School (SHS) students complete college bound curriculum compared to the state average of 66 percent. Eighty-five percent of SHS students took the ACT (state average is 73.2 percent) and attained an average score of 22.5 (state average is 20.5). ACT and SAT scores are in the 98th percentile, placing them in the top two percent nationwide. The dropout rate is 1.1 percent compared to the state average of 5.4 percent. Stillwater High School is a "Gold Medal" school in Area Development rankings for workforce preparation.
Numerous student services are provided by Stillwater Public Schools. Homebound instruction is offered to students who must be away from classes for more than two weeks for medical reasons and may include three hours of instruction by a certified teacher.
Additionally, Stillwater Schools provide licensed day care before and after school for over 100 elementary students. Project STARS is an after school academic intervention program utilizing certified teachers as academic coaches with small groups in a structured and supportive environment. Other programs include Gifted Education, Athletics, Arts in Education, Vocational Training, Special Education Services, Indian Education, and Oklahoma Parents as Teachers.
Stillwater’s commitment to excellence in education led to the creation of the Stillwater Public Education Foundation. The seventeen-year-old, non-profit, community-based organization, led by concerned citizen volunteers has been able to fund numerous projects and programs that directly benefit students of all ages.
The initiatives taken by Stillwater Public Schools have shown that the district is committed to technology usage as well as technology acquisition.
Beyond its reputation for academic excellence, Stillwater Public Schools provide a well rounded experience for students. A new state-of-the-art performing arts center and new athletic facilities are among the recent improvements.
