Oklahoma Department of Career-Tech

Located in Stillwater, the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education promotes and supports success for Oklahoma’s CareerTech system. The goal of Oklahoma’s internationally recognized CareerTech system is to provide quality education for Oklahoma’s workforce. The system is firmly committed to helping Oklahomans succeed in the workforce.

The CareerTech system includes a network of 29 technology centers, operating at 54 campuses statewide. It also includes more than 1,300 vocational programs in 560 public schools and 25 state- operated CareerTech Skills Centers, which operate behind prison walls. Last year, Oklahoma’s Career-Tech system charted more than 450,000 enrollments. About one in every ten Oklahomans took advantage of one of these careertech training programs.

Oklahoma CareerTech’s Training for Industry Program (TIP) is credited for bringing scores of new industries and thousands of new jobs to Oklahoma. The intent of the TIP program is to provide plant start-up workforce training for new or expanding industries. Each TIP training program is customized to meet the needs of a specific industry. It may include pre-employment training, upgrade training, supervisory training, or management training.

The TIP program is a cornerstone of Oklahoma's industry recruiting package, according to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. Annually, plant site location experts from across the country rank Oklahoma’s workforce development training programs among the best in the country. In fiscal year 2001, Oklahoma’s TIP served a total of 17,866 workers at 115 companies.

Training opportunities are also directed toward Oklahoma's small business owners through small business management programs, self-employment training programs and business development programs. These programs are designed to help entrepreneurs and small to medium sized businesses start and sustain their growth and profitability
