Alex was born in the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to Stillwater at the age of 10. “At first I wasn’t sure what to expect, but as my family toured Stillwater for the first time we began to notice people went out of their way to may our visit comfortable and friendly,” Alex said. “I went through the Stillwater Public School system as well as OSU and I have greatly enjoyed my time here, all of the wonderful people I’ve met and the experiences I’ve had.”
As the owner of Stillwater Martial Arts Alex deals with everything from running martial arts tournaments and hiring instructors to working on financials. He tries to connect with the community as much as possible, and be a great organization that will benefit not only himself but the community as a whole.
His first job after graduating in 2013 from OSU was as a general manager of a martial arts studio named Motion Tulsa, after that he opened Stillwater Martial Arts. Some of his career highlights include the purchase of Three Points Karate in 2013. In 2014 he rebranded Three Points Karate into Stillwater Martial Arts and launched the after-school program. His most recent in 2016 was the expansion of the after-school and summer sports camp programs by adding another 3,400 square feet in Downtown Stillwater. The best piece of career advice is to “Hold myself to the standard that Christ would expect of me and to act in accordance to his will,” he said.
Alex is also very active in the Stillwater community. He is on the Stillwater Board for Big Brothers Big Sisters, hosts bullying and focus talks at Stillwater Public Schools and local churches, and hosts Kick-a-thons to benefit Stillwater Humane Society and Stillwater Public Schools. One of his most favorite is serving on the board for Pop Up Dojo. This is a company that brings martial arts to students with special needs.
Alex was delighted when he found out he was chosen to be a YPS360 feature. “Thank you for the honor,” Alex said. “I am trying to do the best that I can for our Stillwater Martial Arts team as well as for our students and the community.”
