YPS: January Letter from the Chair

Jan 03, 2020

STILLWATER, Okla. (January 3, 2020) - I want to be one of the first to wish you a Happy New Year on behalf of the Young Professionals of Stillwater!

Thank you to our 2019 Board of Directors for a wonderful year. In 2019, we hosted more than 20 events engaging over 200 young professionals. Our programming and event lineup has been incredible. We recognized more than 40 individuals and awarded 10 outstanding community members at our sixth annual Leaders Under 40 luncheon. We assisted with Special Olympics of Oklahoma, United Way Day of Caring, served food to those in need and capped off the year with our beloved Holiday Heroes wrapping and holiday party. Our events ranged from hearing from local politicians about our city, county and state, to line dancing at the Tumbleweed. We made many memories and added more than 40 new members. I also want to thank our sponsors. Without their support, we would not have been able to make these events possible.

We’ve seen many changes and improvements to YPS in 2019, and I want to continue this momentum in 2020. My goals is to help you, your employees or friends join YPS. We welcome your input and feedback. We want our group to truly be an inclusive place where people from their 20s to 40 can share ideas and grow Stillwater. Membership is free and I welcome you and others to join. We will need your help!

Looking ahead to this new year:

The year 2020 will be grand for our group, but also our community. We will be moving forward with several of our strategic plan initiatives including membership growth and community outreach. Locally, the census is upcoming, as well as local and national elections. These will have significant impacts on our community. We will join and assist in hosting numerous events to broaden and strengthen the future of Stillwater—and we want YOU to be a part of this. I encourage you to get involved with one of our committees or join us for our monthly events. Membership to YPS is free; you can join online on the Stillwater Chamber website.

Lastly, I would like to recognize our new board members. Each has vowed to dedicate time and effort to help make YPS successful in 2020 and beyond. Our additions include: Jessica Krok- Stillwater Medical Center Foundation, Kearsten Meads- United Country—Oklahoma Land & Auction, Miguel Soto- Oklahoma State University and Kyle Stringer- Oklahoma State University Foundation. We’re confident that these new board members will continue to strengthen our impact in the community.

We look forward to making 2020 the best year yet with you as a part of it!
